Meg and Madison

Meg and Madison have such a strong sense of faith, family and commitment. Their wedding, while not particularly small, felt intimate as each person who came to witness their vows and celebrate in their marriage was truly thrilled to partake in their celebration. Their relatives, most of which I had not met until the rehearsal made even myself feel like part of the family. I am so thrilled that these two found their forevers in each other and grateful I was able to be a part of their big day. Thank you guys!

Catch up Series: First Installment Engaged!

In major need of an update! A lot has happened since our last update! I got engaged, bought a house and executed my first wedding of the spring season!

This post will be dedicated to the engagement :)

At the end of January, with the help of my (now) fiancé Joe and his insane amounts of travel in his last job, myself, Joe, my mom and dad all traveled to Colorado to visit my brother and his girlfriend for the first time since they moved out that way last summer! Joe and I have been together since High School and while a normal person may think 'something is going on here' when your boyfriend decides to help fund a family trip.... it honestly never crossed my mind!

We flew into Durango, CO on a Saturday afternoon and upon being picked up by my brother Jacob and his girlfriend Mattie, we make a quick stop at the grocery and liquor stores before driving to Cortez, CO where they live. Did I think it was strange when my mom purchased two bottles of Moet and Chandon...? Of course not.

After spending a night at my brothers, we travelled to Telluride the next afternoon where we would be staying the next three nights Snowboarding, eating great food and taking in the breathtaking views. On the way, we blew the engine in Mattie's Jeep and had to abandon it on the side of the road. While this sounds like a total vacation ruiner and it very well could have been, luckily, we were all able to embrace our next few days of vacation (even Mattie... poor thing!) and just completely disconnect. Upon arriving on Sunday afternoon, we all settled in to our shared suite at the base of the ski lift. After a gondola ride and drink up in Mountain Village, we finished our first night with a complimentary cocktail hour in the hotel and a dip in the hot tub.

On Monday, Joe and Jacob had a day of snowboarding planned while Mattie, mom, dad and I were booked in at the Spa for massages. After exploring the small town of Telluride, we all planned to meet for lunch at noon at the base in Mountain Village. Little did I know when I stepped onto the Gondola I was in for more than lunch!

As my brother and Joe descended down the mountain toward us, I took a few shots with my camera before Joe almost ran me over as he dropped to the snow (feet still in its bindings) I'm laughing because I thought I was going down until I look over and see him still on the ground.... black box extended toward me. My jaw literally dropped open as I struggled to make sense of the situation before me... Joe managed to propose through my mumbling of 'is this real?' 'omg' and my dads favorite: 'what the heck, Joseph?'

Whats even better is he got the entire thing on video via a GoPro! Such a fun video to have and the ring is beautiful! After a celebratory lunch with champagne and a few phone calls to family; Joe and Jacob finished their snowboarding for the day while the rest of us went back down the mountain for massages and continually stared at my left hand for the remainder of.... well forever.

The rest of our vacation was amazing seeing where my brother lives and hangs out, snowmobiling in Silverton , Co and getting to take part in the SteamPunk festival in Durango.

I am so excited to be marrying my best friend and high school sweetheart next May in Asheville, NC. It's been such a fun experience already getting to plan my own wedding!!

Looking back on 2014

img_4396.jpg

2015. Looking back, I cannot believe how fast 2014 flew by. New Years Eve 2014.....I had just moved to Charlotte,NC a few months earlier and had just begun working with a great wedding planner in the area, as well as at a beautiful downtown charlotte events venue. The beginning of 2014 brought feelings of gratitude for a new year and new beginnings, as well as sadness as I looked back on a year (2013) that I felt could almost solely be summed up with the death of my brother, Joshua. He would have turned 30 in February of 2014.IMG_4960IMG_4950

Looking forward into 2014, I was determined to begin anew and develop a new normal with this huge piece of my heart missing. With the support of my amazing and supportive boyfriend whom I moved away from Asheville to be with, as well as my family and close friends, I founded an organization called Veteran Jam in February of 2014. In memory of my brother, Joshua A. McArdle my family and myself planned and executed a 5K Run and Festival on June 22nd in Asheville, NC to spread awareness for PTSD and show support for our veterans. The amount of participants and volunteers that came out surpassed our expectations and it was truly an amazing event. Through the planning of that event, I was fortunate to learn of so many amazing organizations and people in WNC that worked for similar causes.

A few months after living in Charlotte, my boyfriend Joe received a great job offer in Atlanta, Georgia so there I was moving a second time just 5 months after moving to CLT. I was both excited for a new scenery and disappointed to leave after just having felt like I was settling in. We moved March 31st and spent my birthday April 1st unpacking and exploring our new city. 9 months later, I feel like I belong here and truly enjoy calling Atlanta home! Funny, because I was so scared to move to such a large, busy city!   IMG_4388IMG_5407

The Veteran Jam is now in the process of becoming a 501c(3) organization where we will increase awareness of the sacrifices and struggles of our veterans through community events aimed to foster purposeful and healing relationships. I am tocontinue working towards a greater cause for our veterans and humbled to be doing it in my brothers name.

With my new move, I took the opportunity to make a step towards my own future as well and make the decision to start my own company planning social events in Atlanta. I have two great clients that I am currently working with for their 2015 weddings and lofty plans to expand in this new year.

Overall, 2014 was a year of many new beginnings and I look forward to what 2015 has in store. I'm ready.
